Sony has announced the launch of a new promotional memory card offer that will enable phone users to play EA Sports' Fifa 08 video game on their mobile phones, it has emerged.

Two new memory cards offering two and four gigabytes of memory respectively have been made available in preparation for the 2008 European football tournament.

By plugging their custom memory sticks into their Sony Ericsson mobile phone, consumers can download the game free of charge and start playing straightaway.

Sony has explained that the latest promotion is part of its ongoing effort to deliver greater technological capacity and enjoyment to its customers through "precision engineered" flash memory cards.

A statement from the company read: "With the space available on a four gigabyte card, you can transform your Sony Ericsson mobile phone into a hand-held entertainment centre loaded with your choice of games, music and photos."

This year's European football tournament will see 16 of the best national teams from across the continent competing for the title currently held by Greece in Austria and Switzerland from June 7th.
